Who Am I?

The question of "Who Am I?" is probably to massive of a topic to really broach on this blog. So, rather than give you a glimpse of my personal philosophy, I'm going to give the standard surface answer to who I am.

East Troy, WI - 2008 Homecoming
I grew up in a small town in Wisconsin, US. By small, I mean very small. There were 32 students in my graduating class till I moved at the end of High School. At that time I moved to what I considered a large town. There were 3,000 in total population. Luckily, my experiences since high school have shown me that most people would still consider both towns small and insignificant. Growing up in a small town, however, has been rather fundamental to who I am. I love integrating myself within a community, and it is easier to do this in a small town. I spend time volunteering at church and the public library. I buy local foods whenever possible and respect the old farmers in my community more than celebrities or politicians. Elderly farmers have seen life and been stewards of the land that supports us all currently. They know a thing or two ;)

I'm currently taking a break from university. I decided that I was spending too much time cooped up in my apartment doing homework and not enough time living. I studied physics and secondary education at Creighton University. I would spend my week writing three papers for education classes and fifteen hours on problem sets for physics. No matter how much I love learning, I wanted to do my learning with more hands-on opportunities.

Orthodox Church - Tbilisi, Georgia
So, I boarded a plane and went to Georgia. The country not the state. There I  volunteered as an English Teacher in Poti. Poti is a coastal city on the Black Sea. I got to enjoy the rich culture of Georgia and picked up some of the language, too. This was the first time I'd been out of the country. The first time I'd lived with a different family. The first time I'd worked with that many co-teachers. The first time I'd really lived outside of my comfort zone. It was a lot of firsts and an exciting adventure.

Coming back to the states has been an adventure, as well. I work a couple part-time jobs and have applied to be a transfer student to UW-Madison. This means I'll be closer to my family and able to assist them when needed. It's also a somewhat cheaper cost of education than Creighton. My adventures have tamed down somewhat, but hopefully will still entertain you.

My opinions and thoughts recorded here in the blog are bound to be weird and scattered. My mind tends to think faster than I can write. Besides, I'm a science major not an English major. I don't claim any talent in writing. This blog is merely a way to share my experiences with the most people possible and attempt to clear my head of the bizarre and unique things running through it. Enjoy!
